K is for …

Kittens!

Come on, admit it, you can’t resist. Or if you can, you have a heart of stone.

Kindle

I keep to-ing and fro-ing on the idea of an e-reader. I become far less sentimental about “real books” every time I try to squeeze another few books onto the shelves and find myself longing for some TARDIS-esque storage. Add to that the infuriating speed with which publishers change the bloody cover designs (just a few books into a series!!!) and my not-quite-OCD-but-getting-there brain flips out. So from that perspective, the idea of storing thousands of books on one small gadget seems like the perfect solution.

On the other hand … the books that are currently available in e form seem to be predominantly aimed at mainstream audiences. There seems little point in shelling out for such an expensive gadget when the majority of my favourite authors from the fantasy genre do not feature on the e-book lists!

So, I think I’ll hang on to my pennies and see what happens over the next few years, in the hopes of buying an even better e-reader at a time when the back-catalogue of books that *I* want to read is available.

Kinect

Another gadget that insists on catching my eye and imagination. However, since the range of games is still limited, I’m in the same mind on this as I am the Kindle: wait and see what happens!

  1. Kittens – It’s a no – I therefore surely have a heart of stone :-(

Kindle – I’m with you on this one. Papery versions don’t need recharging and can be left on youth hostal bookshelves for others to enjoy.

Kinect – I know not of what you speak. I’m happy about that, and don’t even think I’ll google it, as sometimes ignorance is bliss.

  2. I havene’t exactly got a heart of stone and will fuss other peoples kittens, but I don’t want one. As for books, I want the real thing complete with that booky smell!

  3. Turned up to this mega late as I only found your blog today. I was the same as you about the Kindle and my Dad, knowing that me being an IT geek and gadget hound, bought me one for Christmas. Best. Gift. Ever. I’ve never turned back, it only needs charging for 4 hours every 4-5 weeks and I use it all the time. Plus I send my technical docs to it for interviews etc. which works a treat. Add to that the fact they’re pretty cheap it is well worth it.
