Glasses

Having been diagnosed with astigmatism as a teenager, I should – in theory – wear glasses for reading and watching TV etc but I gave up on them when the conflict between my eyes’ version of what’s horizontal and the reality became too much for my brain to cope with. Ignorance, as they say is bliss, and I cope perfectly well without the aid of glasses … so long as I don’t try to hang any pictures on the wall!

Grey hair

It’s taken me years to find a way to tame my hair, given that it’s thick, curly and each strand has a mind of its own. But so long as I keep it short with the clippers, it behaves and we get along well enough. However, for the past few years, certain “friends” have delighted in picking through the former bird’s nest (see the photo in the ‘D is for‘ post for an illustration) to find the grey hairs lurking there. Now, they no longer have to hunt like monkeys searching for a snack. Slowly but surely, my body has got bored of producing melanin and the grey hairs, they are multiplying. Visibly. Ho hum. Not that I’m bothered enough to dye my hair or anything. I was just hoping I’d be a bit closer to my 40s before Age started tapping me on the shoulder!

Gardening

I’m not a gardener. I once killed a cactus. I can just about cope with vegetables but flowers pass me by. I love them in other people’s gardens (and am extremely fortunate that my landlady is a keen gardener and takes very good care of the ones in my garden here) but I seem to be lacking any urge to domestic plants on my own turf. Genetically speaking, there’s a long line of green fingers behind me, but it clearly skipped a generation with yours truly. Knowing my luck, I’ll come back as a shrub.

  1. I went grey at 32! I come from a long line of worryers. ( Not sure that’s a word, but you get my drift). Finally I’ve learnt not to worry about the stuff I can’t change, and have ceased to worry about the grey hairs. Unfortunately lack of worrying doesn’t reverse the process. I’ll try not to worry about it. :-)
