Yesterday’s supposedly gentle club ride (“no more than thirty miles,” announced G as we set off) turned out to be both hillier and longer than expected, though as a compromise we came home via the Levels. Which they are. I clearly live in the wrong bit of the county.
The coffee and cake stop turned out to be a well-earned lunch break (did I mention the hills?). I slightly overdid things with a delicious sandwich followed by an even tastier – and decidedly chunky – slice of carrot cake and regretted it slightly as we set off again. Mind you, when I got home and realised that my total mileage for the day was closer to fifty than thirty, I not only felt that the cake was well-deserved, but wished I’d ordered the scones as well and brought the cake home!

Scones, cream and raspberry jam (17 July 2011)
I did offer to help C out with his cream tea: he seemed to be struggling. He did not appreciate the offer.
On the other hand the Levels do flood….
Ooh yum! Sorry I’ve missed so many of your posts, this living in two different places is very inconvenient as the internet’s never there when I want it. I’ll catch up now.
gz, that is true. And it would be boring all the time.
Jan, no worries!
