I hit a cycling milestone yesterday: my first fifty miler. And by the end, I felt every yard. There’s no way I would have gone that distance on my own, so I’ve got the cycling club to thank / blame for how I feel today: weary is the word. Luckily, it’s now pouring with rain so having taken the dog out for a short walk, I’m able to curl up on the sofa without any traces of guilt and Let It Pass.

  • I made it up every hill without collapsing or getting off to walk.
  • Banter and laughter were the order of the day.
  • Fantastic views.
  • A wonderful way to explore the area and discover some fabulous coffee shops.
  • Showered with tips about cycling style and bike set up.
  • Did I mention that my total for the day was 51.17 miles? And that we spent much of the day in Devon!
  • Oh, and we met some alpacas when we stopped for lunch at Coldharbour Mill – something to do with Fathers’ Day.

All in all, it was a good day. I might be suffering from a physical and emotional hangover, but they’re a good bunch of people and it is, I believe, a price worth paying.

  1. Congratulations!
You will feel like this when you stretch yourself- but it is good to do it in company, if nothing else can get a needed push up the last bit of *that* hill! Clubruns are good- you can yack as much or as little as you like, and it is good not to have to decide where you’re going every ride out!!
