Gloomy

It’s been a long few days. I seem to be spending a lot of time with my head in a bag, which translates as “a bit of a mess and not really capable of doing much other than feeling rather shitty”. Just to get myself out of bed yesterday, I had to resort to a trick taught to me by my friend, JK, which involves making a detailed list of everything required to transform oneself from being in bed with one’s head under the pillow to up, dressed and eating something healthy to keep the old blood sugar levels up. And by “detailed”, I mean “apply deodorant, get clean pants out of drawer…”. Gah.

On the other hand, I managed to get myself into Taunton this afternoon. It was an extremely enjoyable bike ride, both there and back, as the sun decided to come out and there was a deliciously cool breeze to help things along.

I’ve bought myself some summer cycling mitts, as it’s far too hot to wear my winter gloves, but apart from the obvious need to wear gloves whilst cycling (as gz keeps pointing out to me), a week of abandoning the gloves and cycling with naked hands has left me with sore wrists, presumably from gripping the handlebars too tightly. I had a day off yesterday (having one’s head in a bag makes staying upright on two wheels rather tricky), which cured the problem, but today’s 15 miles has not seen a return since I cycled into town in my hot but protective winter gloves, headed straight for my favourite cycle shop and immediately swapped for the lighter, fingerless ones.

It will, I think, be an early night, in the hopes that tomorrow will be as brighter in my head as the Met Office promises it will be weather-wise…
