…marched them up to the top of the hill…

After struggling to get going this morning, after lunch I decided to take the bike out to enjoy the cloudless blue skies after yesterday’s downpour. I worked out a longish route on the map, partly based on a route I’d cycled before, so knew I’d face some pretty horrible hills. For some reason, this knowledge made me decide something: no stopping to take photos unless my legs gave out.

It therefore came as a bit of shock when that didn’t happen. My chain came off a couple of times, thanks to me buggering up the transition into the lower gears in order to cope with some seemingly vertical slopes, but my legs kept going…! For fourteen miles, which is the furthest I’ve done in one go.

I somehow managed to cycle a slightly different route to the one I’d mapped out, but still ended up joining the road home where I’d planned to. Quite how that happened, I have no idea, but I’m pleased it did as I get to freewheel the last mile back. Which says a little too much about the hills, I think!

  1. well done actually getting the hill to look steep in the picture – mine always seem to flatten out when they’re photographed!

Glad you’re enjoying the bike. Welcome to the cycling gang…

  2. That hill in the photo looks very steep, well done! Did you leave Snipe at home? I’m not surprised if you did, as it’s quite difficult to manage a bike and a dog on the lead…. and probably against the law too!
